patinda ~ born for music

Independent artist, Patinda is not short of interesting musical stories and colorful artistic edits on her Instagram page [@iampatinda], we got the chance to talk to her about her new upcoming song "Sara", where she gets fashion inspiration from, and much more.

What have you been up to lately? How's life been? Anything exciting going on?

P: Hi! Life been pretty good! Right now, I'm doing online learning for the second round, believe it or not. I low-key like it because I get to have more free time to do some other things that I enjoy. I'm focusing on my school work, AP class, SAT, etc. and my music work at the same time. Time management and balance are the keys!

Dream collaboration? Who has influenced your music taste the most? Who have you been listening to lately?

P: My dream collaborations are Cosmo Pyke, Blanks, Phum Viphurit, Clairo, and Cuco. I think I am the one who influences my own music taste because I'll be listening to millions of songs and discovering new artists that I like. My dad also introduces to me many different artists from Dire Straits to Bees Gees. I've been listening to a LOT of Arctic Monkey lately and according to my Spotify wrap 2020, Arctic Monkey is my #1 most streamed artist and I'm their top 2% listeners (I was trying not to flex here but I just can't help it).

You have a new song coming out soon? Would you like to say anything about it?

P: I have a new song coming out this February 12th called "Sara". Sara is the main character that I created for my song to tell the story of mine. This song is about when I experienced one of the most memorable moments of my life and not wanting to move out from it, wanting to live in that moment forever. It's kind of bittersweet. My Spotify is "Patinda", and on other platforms as well.

What's your favorite song that you've released? Is there a personal goal in mind when creating music?

P: My favorite song of mine is "Vibe the Party". It's a very fun song! I really enjoyed making a music video for this song too. When creating music, I always make music that's in my own style and not others. I used to be like "Oh, I wanna make a song that sounds like Jordan Rakei's" but then I realized that this method isn't working because it's not me. It also makes it harder for me to try to write and produce a song when it sounds like other artists. The best way that works for me is just to go with the flow and use the sounds that I like.

When did you start writing music? What inspires your songwriting (ex: life, TV, literature, traveling, other music, etc.)

P: I first started off as a DJ. When I was 13, I wanted to become a DJ like Skrillex. At that time, I listened to Dubstep 24/7. So, I tried to produce one of them myself using Abelton but then I realized that EDM isn't my style when it comes to producing. At the same time, I discovered Girl in Red, making me so obsessed with this style fo music.  So again, I taught myself how to produce and write this kind of music. This makes me know that indie music is what I truly like. I released my first single "Dumb Girl" and "Lost Soul" in 2019 and "Vibe the Party" in 2020. Everything around me inspires my songwriting, like, movies, my own and others life experiences, and even a quote from Pinterest!

Is there anything you like to do/are passionate about outside of music?

P: If you follow me on Instagram or YouTube, you'll see that I play the drums. I've been. playing the drums since I was 11. I really LOVE drumming. Long story short, I used to attend a piano lesson for around 6 years (since I was 4) and then I encountered one of those AGT videos where I saw people play drums and I thought that was cool and I wanted to do that so I told my mom that I wanted to learn drums. But other than drumming and making music, I'm also interested in fashion and film. My favorite film director is Christian Nolan. Fun fact: I also like math.

You have a very distinct style based off of your Instagram, is there anyone you look up to fashion-wise?

P: Thank you! And yes of course, I do have a person who I look up to. My favorite fashion icons are Tyler, the Creator, Kim Duong (@blvckd0pe), Emma Winder, Harry Styles, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner. I love it how they all have their own unique style and differ from each other. If talking about style and not a particular person, 90s fashion is literally the best.

Lastly, what are your plans for the future? Do you want to pursue music fully or is there something else in mind as well? What's one goal you would like to accomplish this year?

P: Definitely! Music has always been my dream career (and I am doing it right now!), but I would also like to be a stock trader/business owner in the future too! Talking about my plans for the future, my plan besides music is to attend my dream college in the U.S if there aren't any further changes or mind changes,  financial engineering is what I will be majoring in. One goal I would like to accomplish this year is gaining 10,000 streams for a song that I'm working on.
